Past generations give us the gift of understanding by leaving records of their lives. Those records are oral histories and traditions, and histories embodied in objects, buildings, and landscapes.

These gifts are all around us. Some wait in archives and libraries to be consulted. Some tell their stories in museum exhibits and interpretive centers. Others -- structures, buildings, streetscapes, and landscapes --
are ever-present fabric in our day-to-day lives.

This website provides current information about 20 such places in Salem. We hope that visitors will find it helpful in becoming acquainted with us and our city.
