Microsoft Edge rose to popularity after it launched alongside Windows 10. A recent survey by StatCounter revealed that Edge surpassed Safari’s popularity. It is now the second most-used browser in the world. But Microsoft Edge has its fair share of bugs. One of them is that the Edge browser keeps signing out users from websites after every session.

We use many websites every day, and singing into each one of them every single time is a hassle. If you are facing a similar issue where Edge keeps signing you out of websites, don’t fret. We will list out possible solutions to prevent it from doing so.

1. Stop Edge From Clearing Cookies and Passwords on Exit

Edge offers a setting to automatically clear cookies and passwords after you exit. If you have configured Edge to auto-clear cookies and site data, you will need to log in to websites again. So, you need to reconfigure Edge to prevent it from auto-deleting cookies and other site data.

To stop edge from clearing cookies and Passwords, do as follows:

  1. Launch the Edge browser on your Windows PC. Now, find the three dots(…) button present in the top-right corner. Click on it to reveal the context menu.

  2. Find the Settings option in the context menu and click on it. Navigate to the left-hand side menu and click on the Privacy, Search, and Services option.
  3. Scroll down in the Privacy, Search, and Services section and find the Clear Browsing Data section. Then, click on the Choose what to clear every time you close the browser option.

  4. You can disallow the auto-delete option when you close the Edge browser. All the selected options will have their toggle enabled.
  5. Disable all the toggles by clicking on them. Make sure to disable the Cookies and other site data and Passwords options. These two options store your session data and login credentials.

  6. Restart the Edge browser, and check whether it saves your session data and passwords.

2. Allow Websites to Save Cookies in Edge

Cookies are vital to offer you a seamless website experience. The web browsers store these cookies, which also contain login information. If Edge doesn’t have permission to save cookies, you will need to re-login on a website every time. So, enabling the browser to save cookies can fix the signing out problems.

To enable Edge to save cookies, do as follows:

  1. Open Edge browser and navigate to the top-right corner. Next, click on the three-dots(…) button to reveal the context menu.
  2. Find the Settings option and click on it. Navigate to the left-hand side menu and find the Cookies and Site Permissions option.

  3. Click on it and select the Manage and delete Cookies and Site Data option.
  4. Now, go to the Allow sites to save and read the cookie data option and check whether the toggle is active. If it is inactive, click on it to enable saving and reading cookies.

  5. Then, scroll down to the Block section. Check whether you have blocked any website from saving cookies in your browser.
  6. Click on the three-dot(…) button next to the website name. Then, select remove to delete the website from the block list.
  7. Now, restart Edge and check whether it saves your session data and passwords.

3. Examine Sync Settings

Edge is a multi-platform browser. If you face a logout issue when trying to use a website on another device, then the sync settings aren’t active. Edge cannot save your browsing data to the cloud when the sync is inactive.

Enabling sync settings will allow Edge to sync all your data across all the devices you use it on. You won’t need to sign in again and will have access to all the saved passwords.

To enable sync settings in Edge, do as follows:

  1. Open Edge browser and navigate to the top-right corner. Click on the three-dot(…) button to reveal the context menu.
  2. Now, navigate to the top-left side and click on Profiles > Sync.

  3. If you notice a Not Syncing message below your email address, sync is inactive.
  4. Click on the Turn On Sync button. Then, click on the Confirm button to enable sync.

  5. Make sure that all the options, including Passwords have their toggle active.
  6. Now, Edge will sync all your browsing data across all your devices.

4. Disable Extensions

Extensions can sometimes interfere with the browser processing. For example, if you use privacy and security extensions, they may clean out your browsing data on exit. Thus, a safety extension can be a reason behind your automatic sign-out problem.

To disable extensions in Edge, repeat the following steps:

  1. Open Edge browser and navigate to the top-right corner. Click on the three-dot(…) button to reveal the context menu.
  2. Click on Extensions > Manage Extensions.

  3. You will see all the installed extensions in the right pane.
  4. To disable an active extension, click on the toggle. Then, repeat this step for all the installed extensions.

  5. Now, Restart Edge and start browsing your favorite sites. Close and reopen Edge to check if you still face the signing out problem.

5. Clear Saved Cookies and Cache

The corrupt cache and cookies can also force Edge to ask you to log in to every website again. You need to clear the cache and cookies. Edge will save new cookies and cache when you log in to a website again.

To clear cookies and cache in Edge, do as follows:

  1. Open Edge and tap on the three horizontal dots(…) button in the top-right corner.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Privacy, search, and services. Then scroll down to the Clear Browsing Data section and click on the Choose What to Clear button.

  3. Set the Time Range to All the time. Then check the Cookies and other site data and the Cached images and files option.

  4. Now, Click on the Clear Now button and Restart Edge.
  5. Access a few websites and close the browser. Now, relaunch it and check if it asks you to sign in again to those websites.

6. Repair Edge

There could be an issue with the current build of Edge installed on your system. Repairing Edge can restore missing/corrupt files without deleting your browsing data.

To repair Edge, do as follows:

  1. Press Win Key + I to launch the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Apps > Installed Apps and then scroll down to find Edge.

  3. Click on the three dots and select the Modify option.
  4. UAC will pop up. Click on Yes and then click on the Repair button.

  5. The setup will re-download Edge and then install it. Click on the Close button after the repair is complete.
  6. Now, check whether it resolved your problem.

Solve the Edge Error That Keeps Signing You Out of Websites

Edge offers settings to clear out browsing data upon exit. It is the usual culprit in most cases. However, corrupt cache and cookies can also force you to log in again. Make sure that you allow websites to save cookies in Edge. If you still face issues, then repairing Edge can fix it.
