NC State’s Cory Durden wants assistance for college athletes with kids

RALEIGH — The alarm on Cory Durden’s cell phone echoes in his two-bedroom condominium an hour right before the sun begins to rise.

N.C. State’s All-ACC defensive tackle yawns as he looks at the time: 5:30 a.m. He rolls out of a mattress shared with his fiancée, Briana, and checks on his infant daughter Olivianna sleeping peacefully in her crib ahead of waking up his 2-yr-previous son Jaxxon.

The 23-year-old Durden is predicted at the Wolfpack soccer facility at 6:45 a.m. for rehab on a partly torn labrum in his left shoulder that demanded medical procedures following the conclusion of final season leaving minor time to bathe, feed and situate Jaxxon in his car or truck seat prior to producing the 20-moment travel to the Murphy Middle on campus.

Right after actual physical coaching, Durden races throughout city to drop his son at daycare before shifting focus to school operate and far more football. He returns to the daycare at 5:30 p.m. for pickup and spends the relaxation of his evening at home while his fiancée is effective most nights as a waitress.
